WSAG Multi Player Online Network Game

Postby OldJim » Thu Jan 31, 2008 7:18 pm

WSAG is a Project for a Multi Player Online Network Game.
It contains these sections:

- WSAG the Game (.blend and .exe file)
http://www.wsag.ch.vu

- WSAG Basic: a basic Multiplayer game setup that you can use to build you’re own Multi Player Game (.blend file)
http://www.gameblender.org/viewtopic.php?id=7

- WSAG Tutorial: a Tutorial on how to setup a Multi Player game in Blender (Word File)
http://www.gameblender.org/viewtopic.php?id=87

- WSAG Examples: a collection of setups used in WSAG (.blend file)
http://www.gameblender.org/viewtopic.php?id=119

I most of the time post at the http://www.gameblender.org forum (I’m one of the Moderators there) but I think some of you would have interest in this project so that’s why I Posted this info here...

I’m sure the Tutorial will have great Interest, because it is written in a way so that It will guide you even if you never worked whit blender before....
Its starts whit how to install Blender and slowly guides you on how to set up for a game and then get up to the complex Part on how to set up a Multiplayer Network game.....

I’m not sure if I posted this in the Right Place, if not I hope the Administrator will move it...

Hey, thanks for the tip! :)

I haven't check it out yet, but if it's as good as it sounds I'll be sure to add it to the Blender Browser Toolbar. I need to add more game-related resources.

Thanks for letting us know! 8)

A god way to get started with blender is to get involved in a Project.
This is how you could get involved in the WSAG Project (and don’t think just because you’re a newbie you can’t help... everybody has his strength’s and can't help...)

===========
You can Support this Project by:

-Sending me Models:
As a Character I will need a Mobile Office... Like a Small Go-Cart or a Water-Scooter with a build in Office... It should look like a Person sitting on in an Office chair in front of his Desktop and on that Desktop there is a Computer.
And all this is inside an open Scooter that can drive around, not on Wheels but on a Nitro Engine just floating about 1cm above the surface … Can you image what I’m talking about if not please ask?
The Measurements have to be:
1Blender Unit = 1 Meter
The Mobile Office should have the dimensions of
high 1.34meters
length 0.95meters
white 0.75

-Sending me Scenarios:
I would like Scenarios form places that really exist… My first scenario will be the Workshop of my Grandfather were I used to play as a Child (read more about it on my Webpage Games Gerlin and WSAG)
So if you have a scenario that I can add to my Game send It to me together whit the (Google Earth) Coordinates of the Upper right and the lower left Corner…
Ideas of Scenarios:
National Parks
City Parts
Your Home Town
High Ways
Stations
Airports
Racing Areas
Swimming Pools
What ever you can think of….
The Measurements have to be:
1Blender Unit = 1 Meter

Tutorial
Read the Tutorial and let me know what I do well and what I could do better…
If you find: Mistakes, wrong spelling or a Way how to write something better, rewrite that part of the Tutorial and send it to me.
If you have pictures that are better then mine Place them in to the Tutorial and send it to me.

Basic Development:
If you know a way to improve ore future develop my WSAGdev.blend file, make the Changes and send the changed .blend File to me together whit a description on what, why and how you change it…Something like a mini Tutorial.

Donations:
On bottom of the http://www.wsag.ch.vu Page you can find a Donations Button where you can donate Money to this Project. The more money comes in the faster we can develop this Project
Credits:
Of Course I will add your Name to the Credit List together whit a Short description on how you supported this Project.

Pretty demanding there, don't you think?
Aren't you already registered here under a different name? That siggy block has already been used, by a bot or another "demanding" person.

Happy new Year.
As i promised my Web page is up again since 01.01.10 at 0:03h.
It contains a lot of Information about How to make Network setups (Multi-payer Games) whit Blender.
I now have everything setup in a way that new Updates should be regular, so stay tuned.

For all the ones that where waiting on the Big WSAG4.1 release, hope you will not be disappointment that WSAG still hast the version number 4.00.26, meaning that not all the Features of the WSAG3.x are included.
But now that everything is setup for rapid development updates should fallow rapid. :D

Also I hope to soon have more Tutorials and Manuals up for download, especial for the WSAG4.x Series

Hope to see you all over at http://www.wsag.ch.vu
or the new direct Link http://www.oldjim.ch/WSAG (This link should be more reliable, and have less downtimes)

Please let me know if your missing something or if something is not working.
Hope to get some feedback on what you guys thing of the new restart of the WSAG Platform. I know a lot of things still look similar to the old setup, but its now a lot more cleaned up and easier for me to manage what will help whit a more rapid and constant update flow.
:D

The last 2 Weeks you did not hear much from me - My daughter was very sick, she vomited any liquid that she tried to drink - what made here dehydrate. So We hat to get her to a hospital and get the liquid back in to here system whit a infusion. Now she is up and fit again - and I'm back to the forum whit a new Development Update:

The Update can be found on my Web-page http://www.oldjim.ch/WSAG pretty much at the bottom in the section Development. the latest File is 4.00.34-WSAGbasic.

In this file I only worked on the RED Player (The other 2 Players have not been changed Yet - I plan an Writting the Tutorial on how the Players are Setup wile I do the other 2.)
These are the Changes made to the Red Player:

- The Shoot Signal is now Transmitted and Set over the Network.
- The Live Count is up and Running.
- All the Key Inputs now run over the Control Empty.

These Changes now allow you to actually play a game against each other. So have fun. :D (Just remember that you will need to play the RED Player to use all the new features.)

These are some additional small changes that have been made:

- Ping now works on all 3 Players
- Error of Setting Pos/Ori In Explorer-mode Fixed
- Info HUD can be turned On/Off by pressing the I-Key (server)

Next step will be tho setup the other 2 Players and to add a Monster (Boot). When these two steps are done we will have the first non developer Version of WSAG4.x what means that it contains all the features that WSAG3.x had.

Hope you enjoy this update and you will give me a lot of feedback on it so that I know what I did right and where I can Improve this setup.

To Improve the Quality of WSAG and speed up its Development, i will start to ask for Help more often.
If you have any interest in helping WSAG you can get more Information here: http://www.gameblender.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1700

Also note that some Download Files on www.oldjim.ch/WSAG were updated.
Would be great to get some Feedback. Especially for the WSAG4xTutorial and the new Development File 4.00.35-WSAGbasic.blend

Hope to here from you

hey there:)

looking good that project, i especially like that its focussed on a multiplayer experience
I think that pdf. tutorial is very well made and covers quite a bit of information. Gotta love the big pics of the logic bricks...for me as a bge-stranger this will definetly take a bit til i figured all the relations, however its great that its in there.
I think with the py scripts covered as aid out so far this will be a very in depth reference for bge users.
I'll try to run the wsagbasic.blend in the game engine and see where i can get with it, so to give some feedback.
Thanks for keeping us update, if u need special testing or something that doesnt require deep understanding of the bge i would be eager to help with that project. (unfortunately i have few clues about the bge ..but i love games and would like to learn about them:) )

Hey Thanx a lot for your feedback.
Feedback and CC (Constructive Critics) are very important for me.

You say that your new to making Network games with BGE. Thats great. For my goal is that the WSAG setup can be easy used be Professional Bledner users and Newcomers. So having a newcomer testing the setup and asking all the Questions that come up will help me to see where I will have to expand my Tutorial to make things clearer.
So please try to get the WSAG up and Running and let me know where you run in to problems.
And If you see things that you would do different let me know. Do not be afraid to make suggestions, just because your a newcomer. Newcomers often have new Ideas and new Ideas help to Improve this setup.

So thanx alot for your feed back and I hope to hear a lot of Questions, Ideas recommendations... In the near future.

And to all the other readers please also step up and give me CC or help on developing this setup. Every help is very welcome :D

however the explorer mode worked fine (i think) i could walk around on the plane shooting and stuff, movement mouselook and things worked fine
i guess one has to build some level and add monsters/ or realplayers so u can shoot each other...
when i shot the ground plane i got into negative GP ..i tried to kill it lol
anyway it seems to work, i havent read thru the whole script text there yet but i will :)

Yea thats a Chapter that i will include in to my Tutorial. At the moment is missing a guide on how to setup the Firewall and the Router so that it will properly work. This is not so a big deal - It just still has to be done. :D I will post a update as soon as its done.

Nixon wrote:i guess one has to build some level and add monsters/ or realplayers so u can shoot each other...

Well the Real Players are already in Place. Just Start a Server and then as many Realplayer as wished can Join the game.
The Monster will be my next task... As soon as I have all 3 Players Setups finished and everything is well documented.
For The Template there will not be much more Levels to do... Maybe one That has few elements in it to test the Mosters AI.
The Idea is that this Temeplate can be used to make any Game you wish whit it, so levels can be individual added.
How ever there is also WSAG The Game and there I can use a lot of help making levels... More Details about this can be found here:
http://www.gameblender.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=13

Nixon wrote:when i shot the ground plane i got into negative GP ..i tried to kill it lol

Yea this happens if the Bullet hits the feet of the Player your controlling. So yea not only the Bullets of other Players but Your own bullets can hurt you... just like in real live

Nixon wrote:anyway it seems to work, i havent read thru the whole script text there yet but i will

Yea do so and let me know what you think and where I can Improve it. :D

The WSAG4xTutorial has been updated and now contains a lot of Information about how the Player is setup in this Multi-player Template.
You can download it at http://www.oldjim.ch/WSAG
Please give me some feed back what you think about how this Tutorial is setup and how easy it is to understand. Tips on how to improve it are very welcome. Also if someone would like to go over it and correct it in to a proper English grammatical writing that would be great.
looking forward to get a lot of CC that will help me improve this setup :D

@Nixon:
There is now a chapter about how to setup the Router/Firewall so that WSAG will run.
Hope this will help you to setup WSAG as a Multiplayer Template
Thanx for telling me that this was something that needs to be added to my Tutorial. :D

I go t a lot of Feedbacks from different Forums and PMs that Its hard to find things on my Webpage.

So I did the second facelifing on my www.oldjim.ch/WSAG Page this Year.
I over worked the Download section.
I hope that its easier to get a overview now and that people will find what they are looking for better.

Please Visit me at www.oldjim.ch/WSAG and give me feed back on what you think about the new Download Section.

Also Im looking for something like this
http://www.blendernation.com/resourcesp ... r-blender/
to display the WSAG Models in my ArtGallery.
I like the way how it automatic makes Thumbnails of your upladed Blender Files...
But I cant figure out how to use this resourcespace.
Any Help/Tips are very welcome
