 I bet they are RR. We only have the standard dump truck plow. My brother in law has a small rotary like your talking about but his is a playtoy compared to that one... bet them plows can really throw some snow around. or do they work like a chipper and dispence the snow to the side? Either way that would be awesome to see. :)

The old ones throw snow out the top. Not sure what the modern ones do. Never actually saw one. They use them mainly in the mountains west of us for coal supply runs to the power plants. The old ones look like this: (something they might have used during after the blizzard of '49)

The one I saw was a bit different but you get the idea. The antique one here in Cheyenne is taller than the loc and IIRC, it had 4 blade rigs instead of one.

Of course the modern ones look quite different:

Wow.... Maybe the people out in nebraska never heard of the be prepared moto... You could move some serious snow with these things. I could see where the snow fall is that great you would need this especially in the mountains where up ahead there may have also been an avalanch that covered the tracks. My Wife said wish I had one of them in 78. Thanks for finding that. Awesome....  :)

  Good one!

As for the snow here in the US, Wyoming, Colorado, and others in these parts haven't seen real snow since the beginning of January! I'm definitely not missing it. Main reason is because the snow is usually accompanied with crazy winds (75mph+). Driving when chthonian beings are buffeting your cars is tragic!!

We've had more snow here in North Carolina this year than we have had in the 8 winters before this that I have lived here combined.

We've been having high winds the past couple of days (50+/- mph), but no snow right now thankfully. A good thing about here is even if it snows a lot, the sun usually comes out and it is warm enough to melt it all away pretty quickly.

And speaking of getting blown about by the wind while driving... I used to have a '72 Volkswagen Bus, it was an adventure driving that thing, a mild breeze would blow me away.

Near where I live the interstate goes up the side of a mountain into the Blue Ridge Mountains, you can see for miles, and miles as you drive there, but the wind is ferocious at times, usually 2 or 3 times a year a tractor-trailer is blown over on its side as it travels up the mountain. :o

Work has been cancelled all week because of the two storms back to back. The snow-plows just started working on the side streets when this storm came through, so there are swaths of neighborhoods that have been stuck inside since Friday night--and now it's Thursday! :o
I'm going to try and see if I can go into work today to help clear out some of the backlog... the rest of the world has kept on moving and I'm sure there is well over 100 email messages I have to go through.

It's fine where I live. It hit us back February 9th late in the night to early morning the next day, since then it's been rather mild with snow slowly melting and maybe light snowfall on some days. I'm just waiting it for to melt and be a nice warm weather. 8)

You know, finkgab lives in the Southern hemisphere so it's probably great weather right now. *checks* yup, its 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Santiago Chile... mind if I come visit you finkgab?
